*Nasdaq fell over 2% on Friday, ending the week down 4.5% as tech and AI stocks led the sell-off.
*Concerns over AI financing, semiconductor valuations, and rising oil prices reignited inflation fears and pressured equities.
*Results from Meta and Tesla, alongside Fed signals and geopolitical developments, will shape market direction and volatility in the coming week.
U.S. equity markets closed lower on Friday, with the Nasdaq Composite bearing the brunt of the selling and posting a decline of more than 2 percent. The S&P 500 fell approximately 1.1 percent, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined more modestly by around 0.3 to 0.5 percent. For the week, the Nasdaq recorded its steepest drop since June, losing roughly 4.5 percent and ending a multi-week winning streak, as technology and AI-linked shares remained under sustained pressure. The broader S&P 500 also finished lower on a weekly basis, though the Dow managed a modest gain, highlighting a continued rotation away from growth-oriented names.
The primary selling factors centred on renewed concerns surrounding the financing of the artificial intelligence infrastructure buildout. Debt-laden AI-related companies, including CoreWeave, faced sharp declines as investors questioned the ability of these firms to generate sufficient returns to service elevated borrowing costs amid higher interest rates. Semiconductor stocks extended a multi-session losing streak, reflecting broader unease over valuations, competitive pressures and capital intensity in the sector. Adding to the caution, crude oil prices rose more than 3 percent on heightened Middle East supply risks, raising fears of further inflationary pressures that could complicate the Federal Reserve’s policy path. Residual effects from the previous week’s hotter-than-expected inflation data also contributed to a risk-off tone heading into the weekend.
Looking ahead to the coming week, the equity market outlook remains cautious and event-driven. High-profile earnings reports from major technology and growth companies, including Meta Platforms and Tesla, will be closely watched for any signals on AI spending sustainability and broader demand trends. Ongoing scrutiny of AI-related debt levels, combined with elevated oil prices and geopolitical uncertainties, is likely to sustain volatility, particularly in the Nasdaq. Federal Reserve communications and any shifts in rate expectations ahead of the late-October policy meeting could also influence sentiment. While defensive and value sectors may continue to offer relative resilience, a sustained recovery in technology will require clearer evidence that the AI investment cycle can deliver profits without excessive leverage risks.

Nasdaq, H4:
The Nasdaq has extended its bearish run, with the index continuing to form a series of lower highs, reinforcing the prevailing downside momentum and signalling a deterioration in its technical structure. The recent break below its previous breakout level further strengthens the bearish outlook, suggesting that selling pressure remains dominant and that the index may be entering a deeper corrective phase.
The index is now approaching a key support level at 28,845.20, an area where buying interest has emerged on multiple occasions during previous trading sessions. A decisive break below this level would undermine the existing support structure, potentially accelerate selling pressure and expose the Nasdaq to a steeper decline as bearish momentum gathers pace.
Conversely, a sustained rebound above 28,845.20 could provide temporary relief and prompt a technical recovery. However, unless the index manages to reclaim the broken breakout level and establish a stronger upward structure, the near-term outlook remains tilted to the downside, with 28,845.20 emerging as a critical level to watch.
Resistance Levels:30,132.30, 30,830.00
Support Levels:28,845.20, 28,160.10
